Definition

Chakras:  Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel, or vortex, and it refers to each of the seven energy centers of which our consciousness, our energy system is composed.

There are seven primary energy centers (chakras): Root/Base, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Brow (Third Eye), and Crown. We each also have 3 sub-primary chakras: two below the Root and three above the Crown, and 21 minor chakras (including but not limited to: in the palms of the hands, at the bottom of the feet, behind the eyes, at the knees, at the ears, and in the areas of the underarms. Chakras (energy centers) act as receivers and transmitters for subtle energies. Each chakra functions on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. At the same time they are centers of consciousness, of awareness.  They function as pumps or valves, regulating the flow of energy through our energy system. The functioning of the chakras reflects decisions we make concerning how we choose to respond to conditions in our life. We open and close these valves when we decide what to think, and what to feel, and through which perceptual filter we choose to experience the world around us.

The chakras are not physical. They are located in our etheric bodies, and are part of our etheric body.  They are the entry gate of the aura. They are aspects of a particular part of consciousness in the same way that the auras are aspects of consciousness. The chakras are more dense than the auras, but not as dense as the physical body. They interact with the physical body through two major vehicles, the endocrine system and the nervous system.   They turn in a clockwise direction and when unblocked they open up as a flower and pour out their qualities re-establishing our inner balance and restoring our health and form.  As with all in our reality, Chakras are linked to symbols, sounds, light and colour.
 

Main Seven Major Chakras.

Root Chakra: The root chakra (Kundalini), is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with parts of our consciousness concerned with security, survival and trust. It is also suggested that this centre is related to re-incarnation, past lives and repeated physical embodiment. It contains 8 primary cells that all have the knowledge of our creation and remain the only cells in your body that do not change during your lifetime. For most people, this concerns the parts of their consciousness concerned with money, home and job. The colour of this chakra is Red.

Abdominal Chakra/Spleen: The Abdominal Chakra is located just below the navel and related to our sexual and reproductive capacity. It is also involved with the person's willingness to feel their emotions. It is the major emotional centre as well as being the main storage battery for the 'Chi energy. Blockage of this chakra manifests as emotional problems or sexual guilt. The colour of this chakra is Orange.

Solar Plexus Chakra: The Solar Plexus is the seat of emotions. It gives us a sense of personal power, control, or freedom in the world. It also represents ease of being, and comfort with what is real with oneself which is "being comfortable". It is associated with the functioning of the aura and psychic energy field, and with Etheric and Astral plane of sensitivity. Blockage manifests as anger or a sense of victimization. The colour of this chakra is Yellow.

Heart Chakra: The Heart Chakra is associated with the parts of consciousness concerned with relationships and our perception of love. This chakra creates/nourishment of antibodies compassion, love, security and confidence. The heart Chakra is very important to spiritual healing. All energies travel up and into the Heart Chakra, before moving to the hands and eyes of a healer. Blockage of this chakra can manifest as immune system or a lack of compassion. The colour of this Chakra is Green.

Throat Chakra: The Throat Chakra is tied to creativity and communications. This Chakra is also associated with abundance, the state of consciousness called grace. The Throat Chakra rules the faculty of speech, being mid-way between the heart and tongue. It is also associated with listening to one's intuition (clairaudience) and flowing in a particular way, where it seems that the universe supports you in all you do. It is the first level of consciousness from which one perceives another level of intelligence functioning. In Tibetan Buddhism, this Chakra is associated with the dream state of consciousness. Both Tibetan and Taoist use this chakra to access the dream state and develop the faculty of lucid dreaming. The colour of this chakra is Blue.

The Brow Chakra/Third Eye: The Brow Chakra/Third Eye, is associated with the parts of consciousness concerned with the spiritual view and is home to Spirit. It is the place of awakened Spirit or as some people call it ESP "Extra Sensory Perception or Clairvoyant". In some Eastern traditions the ability to hear/sense this is considered a necessary pre-requisite to further growth. The colour of this chakra is Indigo.

The Crown Chakra: This Chakra is located at the top of the head. It connects you with the Higher Realm. When this Chakra is "activated" or opened up, it allows higher vibrations of energy to enter into the crown chakra thus we can expect to experience a pressure on top of the head. This energy will be affecting our auric field. Several things happen here. The aura will become cleaner and brighter. The seven main chakras will receive this high vibration and become more balanced. This will allow healing energy to flow into the body. The colour of the Crown Chakra is Violet.

Chakra colour frequency also correlate to the music scale.

Understanding the Chakra system allows you to understand the relationship between your consciousness and your body, and to see your body as a map of your consciousness. It gives you a better understanding of yourself and those around you.
